Lego House, Home of the Brick! 🇩🇰
Every child’s dream come true and every adults too! During my most recent visit to Denmark, we were lucky enough to visit Billund, twice. The first time we enjoyed all the sights and sounds of LEGOLAND. Then on our second visit, we had all our dreams fulfilled by experience all the LEGO House had to offer.
Where is the LEGO House?
LEGO House is built within the town of Billund. Billund is the home of LEGO, so it seems appropriate for the building and attraction to be constructed in its true home. It is a small town in the middle of Denmark that has gained world notoriety, through the invention and production of the brick. The company headquarters are based here, together with its origin and history. Over the years it has served as the main employer for the local area and is seen as a very important part of the community.
Architecture
The building is amazingly designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group and acts as an impressive focal point in the local area. From all angles it looks amazing, with its white exterior and contrasting colours. From above, the roofs have different colours and resembles the blocks in real life. From the outside the building has a clean, open, and colorful interior and exterior. The LEGO designers have done an fantastic job in creating such an inviting space, that allows both adults and children to indulge themselves in a truly immersive experience.
The amazing Technic dinosaur in the LEGO House Masterpiece Gallery. Over 700 panels with 18 unique designs were used to cover the dinosaur.
The entire experience is completely LEGO themed and the building really appeals to everyone's imagination.
LEGO House is superbly designed and amazing multi-use attraction, with several public spaces and paid areas. Within the creative structure, are several free-to-roam patios with different play areas. There are several floors of creative and play spaces, for all ages to play and explore. On the ground floor you find restaurant areas, and of course, the LEGO shop.
This dog welcomes you in the main hall on the ground floor.
Endless creating, with many parts to combine and discover. I could do this all day!
Tree of Creativity
It was a great experience, as we all loved exploring and playing within this amazing building. From the main hall on the ground floor, we climbed the central staircase, which forms the centre of the building and leads off to rooms of creativity and exploration. The staircase surrounds an impressive sight, that being the Tree of Creativity. It is an impressive structure that stands at over 15m tall and is packed full of small details and surprises. It is hugely impressive and captures your attention straight away, making you always look twice.
The tree stands as an integral part of the building, but originally there were other ideas and alternative models. In the end, It's great that they've chose the tree, as it resembles strength, roots and I suppose marks the foundation of the great company. It is a very unique LEGO model and was built all by hand, using over 6 million standard LEGO bricks and took around 24 hours to build.
Discover and play
Once upstairs and within the main building, there are many rooms that inspire and that bring your attention for lots of creativity. Each room has a theme and within the room there is many things to do. You can read or observe how things are created, or follow the main function of the room by simply immersing yourself in all of the activities that are there.
We took the opportunity to create some small scaled figures, in between the various colours from the classic bricks.
Learn and create
Within the rooms are thousands and thousands of bricks, ready to use in the storage containers or on tables and it is wonderful to see both children, adults and grandparents all sitting side by side, enjoying themselves and further developing their creative minds.
Bring your fish to live!
There are other areas where you can go ahead and create a fish. Once the fish is made you can hang it on a back drop and as if by magic, your fish will appear to be floating in the open ocean.
Or Build the fastest racing car…
Also, you can build a car and then test it on a track, to see how far it will travel and jump. Around every corner, you will be challenged to explore in a very creative way.
the colored zones
During the visit I was also impressed with some of the display areas. These themed areas were indicated by different colors, and were pretty big. In one area, the artists had created a mountain scene, fully equipped with roads, houses, cable cars and many other features. In another area was a city, with the world’s tallest buildings all being carefully recreated out of good old lego pieces.
So much to see and do!
Unfortunately, we had to leave again, since we were flying home the same day from Billund airport. We did’nt get to see everything, so I definitely hope one day to return here. To my opinion, Lego House has got to be on your bucket list! Not just for children, but as much as for AFOLS. What are AFOLS? Yes, you read it correctly: Adult Fans Of Lego. And how can you not be? Especially after this experience!
